Eating to your stomach’s specifications is easy. Everyone has different capacities but did you know that the answer to your food intake lies in your hands? If you make a fist with your hand then this is the size of YOUR stomach. Your stomach can comfortably double in size without risking overeating. So a good rule of thumb is to eat one fist size proportion of rice and one fist of your beans and veggies. When it comes to leafy greens you can eat as much as that as you like. This is a good habit to adapt at all time and will keep you and your stomach healthy and happy.
Your daily intake of fluids should be around 2L for a women and 2.5l for all the boys. What most people don’t realise is that this amount includes all fluids, every cup of herbal tea and even your soup at night. When drinking for thirst it is best not to drink cold drinks. Your body likes room temperature to tepid (37 degrees) fluids as this is the same temperature as your body’s natural temperature.
Make sure you think before your drink. Drinking water or other liquids with your meals dilutes your digestive enzymes. This in turn reduces your body’s ability to process the foods you eat effectively. Try and drink 1 hour before your meal as this will also help reduce your appetite and ensure that you get the most of of your meal. and that you are eating to your stomach’s specifications.
