This Month’s Meridian Yoga Move is the Kidney Stretch!
Here’s a stretch that works to balance the Kidney (KD) meridian which will cool you down and chill you out – perfect for a hot, Summer Australian Christmas.
Laying on your back, pick up one leg and hold onto the front of the foot with your hand. The trick is to get your heel up higher than the ball of the foot, extending your Achilles and zoning in on the KD meridian.
Simply breathe evenly and hold the position. This yoga move is perfect. It will balance the Qi (energy) in the meridian and reset the balance of your adrenals as well. Allow the rest of your body to lengthen, to extend through the spine so you feel straight on the floor. After 5 breaths, when your leg feels like it almost wants to relax, try to soften and push that heel a little higher. Then take a break and have a rest before picking up the other leg.
Rest after that leg and be sure to repeat the move again on the side that feels tighter. Take your time and don’t rush. The rest time is just as important as the move as this is the time we allow our body take in what you have done to make a change in the way you feel. Feels good right?
We all love a good break at this time of year but we also know that the festive season can be quite stressful and hectic. This stretch will relax and recharge your energy levels, with the added bonus of cooling you down in the process.
