Last week our class did a 3 day half-fast which helps with vitality and to detox the blood. By mixing the fasting with yoga we are able to really access areas of our bodies that are normally not able to be cleansed – like the bones.
For me I found it quite easy. I actually feel like I cheated a little because I was a little sick before starting end ended up sleeping most of the first day.
The food was absolutely delicious and the morning medicine I quite enjoyed. What I did struggle with the most was the fact that we couldn’t drink a lot of water (which I normally would drink 2-3 litres a day), which felt was counter intuitive to what we have always been told when doing previous detoxes. But as it turns out, by reducing your water intake your blood doesn’t become diluted and has the strength to move deep toxins by contracting the muscles and internal organs. (Pretty clever if you ask me!)
Day 2 – We had all our meals prepared at a pre-fast WholeFood Cooking Demonstration with Lisa and Lyn. I was up and off to the gym first thing in the morning so found I got hungry earlier than normal so I split my lunch into 2 to get through the day until dinner time. The good news was that by getting my body moving it really helped flush out some of those nasty toxins.
Then Day 3 – I had a full day on including a sweat lodge (which is also great for detoxing) and found by keeping myself preoccupied I didn’t really worry about getting hungry and found I just breezed through the last day.
But…..I know some of the other girls in my class got a bit HANGRY (that’s hungry and angry) and spacey whilst on the detox, some felt really emotional and others had physical shifts and changes.
Overall we felt energized and I will definitely be making these recipes on a regular basis – especially the pumpkin and adzuki bean soup!
