What is this wet stuff???
A new week brought a whole new bunch of challenges for me.
We have moved on to a new module and now we are focusing on the earth element. One thing you might not realize with remedial and Japanese yoga is that all of the classes are inline with the seasons and behind each season there is an elemental energy;
Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood and although they generally are inline with the seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), Earth is a beautiful in-between element where there is that unusual change in the season …. Remember that crazy hot weather we had a couple of weeks ago towards the end of winter??? YEH THAT!
Anyway, so here we were, on the mat learning the new class and as the class went on I could feel the pain my back coming on more and more (for those that have heard my story about my back injury I’m sure ill cover it in a future blog) but the weird thing was that I could also feel these emotions coming up and I really had no idea why….
But the more moves we did the more my back was hurting and the more I was feeling emotional until…. I dropped and curled up into a ball and Lyn said “that’s enough Bel, don’t you do anymore” I started leaking slightly from my eyes… then Gen came and put pressure on my legs to release my back and that was it….. FULL BLOWN TEARS started pouring from my eyes… Now if you know me you will know that I’m not normally one for emotions, I even turned to Gen and said “WHY AM I CRYING?” But clearly something just wanted to come out in that moment so we just went with it.
So afterwards I did a little goggle searching and it turns out that it is actually quite normal not just when doing an Earth practise but on the mat in general.
Here are some tidbits I found –
“The emotion associated with the Earth element is sympathy, an important emotion when expressed in appropriate circumstances. Compassion and empathy arise spontaneously when the moment is right.”
